Groton Indians

Three Indians sent pitches over the fences as the Groton Indians defeated the Marathon Olympians, 11-8, at home Wednesday afternoon.

Maggie Ossit blasted a solo shot in the fourth inning to put Groton up 6-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Courtney Parr sent one long that tied the game at 8-8.

Later in the inning, Gabbie Russell gave the Indians the three-run lead with a two-run home run to cap the scoring.

The team reached 3-2 overall, including 3-0 in IAC divisional play, behind a double play in the top of the seventh that ended the game and threat.

"So we escaped another one," head coach Ed Dow, Sr. said.

Paige Graham was an asset offensively, notching three hits on the night. Freshman JJ Harriott got the win on the mound, her second of her varsity career, by striking out eight. She allowed nine hits with Katelyn Norman behind the plate for her.

"We made some errors behind her but we held on," Dow said.

Groton trailed 2-1 after the first. Each team plated a run in the second; after holding Marathon, Groton added three runs in the third to take a 5-3 lead.

Groton is scheduled to play in Tully Tuesday with first pitch set at 4 p.m. The full schedule, including all Groton sports, can be found here.
