Champions Again

The Lansing High School girls swimming and diving team repeated as IAC champions last week. 

Lansing is once again taking top billing this postseason with more success on the pitch, in the pool and on the court.

The Lansing boys soccer team successfully defended its Section IV Class C title with a 5-0 win over Seton Catholic Saturday, Oct. 28 at Wright National Fields in Oneonta in the sectional championship game.

Five different Bobcats scored goals (Nick Parkes, Erik Goehler, Langston Hopkins, Josh Zajac and Taylor Overton) behind a team total 18 shots; the defense kept Seton Catholic to two shots, both saved by Jack Yahn.

Lansing will travel to play Sauquoit Valley out of Section III in the New York State quarterfinals Saturday, Nov. 4. SV defeated Beaver River, 1-0, Monday night in the sectional title game held in Lowville.

The Lansing (11-0) girls swimming and diving team repeated as IAC champions with a first-place total score of 387 in the title meet held Saturday. Waverly placed second with 379 points and Watkins Glen third with 319.

Lansing’s Marin Allen, Mackenzie Stark, Grace Kadlecik and Meghan Matheny finished first in the 200-yard medley relay. Caroline Dennis finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.04) and Katie Barr finished third (2:14.00).

Barr, Matheny, Marin and Dennis combined to earn another team first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay at a time of 1:46.61, two seconds faster than second-place Waverly.

The combination of Barr, Dennis, Stark and Kadlecik placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:50.93). Relay wins earn teams 40 points whereas individual wins earn teams 20.

The freshman Kadlecik placed second in the 500-yard freestyle at a time of 5:30.36. She also finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.41). Allen finished third (26.65).

Dennis placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (56.12). Marin placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.39).

Dryden finished fourth with 233 points. Senior Marita Miller finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.58, two seconds behind Waverly junior Kennedy Wheeler. She finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.53). Senior Allison Morrow finished third in the 100-yard freestyle (58.58) and second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.22).
