Wesley W. Uitos, 82, of Trumansburg, passed away peacefully with family at his side on March 30, 2017, at the family home in which he was born.
The youngest of four children, Wes was born June 30, 1934, to the late William H. and Aino M. Ylonen Uitos. A 1953 graduate of Trumansburg High School and a 1955 graduate of SUNY Morrisville, Wes spent a couple of years working with the Spencer Feed Co-op before being drafted into the US Army in 1957.
Upon his return home, he went to work with the Laborer’s Local 785, where he remained until retirement. In May of 1967 he was married to Carol Reynolds Uitos, and they settled into the family homestead, working and raising their family.
Wes was a proud, humble man, with a great love for his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren. He had an appreciation for life in the country, enjoyed hunting, vegetable gardening and most everything Mother Nature had to offer.
Wes’s most enjoyable past time was riding his four-wheeler on his trails. For many years he went for coffee with “the guys,” rain or shine six days a week.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 770, an over 50-year member of the Laborer’s Local 785, and a lifetime member of the NRA and the Wild Turkey Federation.
Wes is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Carol Reynolds Uitos; their daughters, Michelle Searles (Chip) of Alpine and Jennifer Blais (Adam) of MA; grandchildren, Logan & Trevor Searles and Annalise & Alana Blais.
In addition to his parents, Wes was preceded in death by his siblings, Sylvia Maatta, Herman Uitos and Esther Hensley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to “Sara’s Gift” fund c/o Tracy VanDerzee, 701 W. Seneca St, Ithaca, NY 14850, or a charity of choice.
A memorial celebration and picnic is being planned for later this summer and will be announced at that time.
Lansing Funeral Home is assisting the family.
