Roger Peck Olney of Lenexa, Kansas lost his life on June 23, 2016 after a brief and courageous fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and soul mate, Patricia Cassidy Olney, and daughter Nicole Olney Dobbs. Roger was 71 years old.
Roger graduated from Edison High School in Elmira Heights, New York, Class of ‘62. He was awarded the Boy Scout’s highest award of Eagle Scout. He graduated from the Alfred University ROTC program, winning the Distinguished Service Award. He then began active duty in the U.S. Army as a captain, flying helicopter missions in Vietnam for many years. He left the Army after 10 years with an Honorable Discharge, joining Michelin Tire. He retired from Michelin as their Midwest regional manager.
Roger and Pat were married 39 years ago in Elmira, New York. Pat was executive vice president and regional manager, Johnson County, Commerce Bank, Lenexa, Kansas. Besides his wife, Roger is survived by his son Scott and daughter Nicole Dobbs. His older brother William Olney lives in Ithaca. His older sister, Barbara Bjorck Woughter passed away in 2005.
