Spencer's Favorite Historian

Jean S. Alve, 92, of Spencer, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Elderwood in Waverly, NY. She was born in Milford, Michigan, March 25, 1924, the daughter of Curtis and Agnes (Grist) Seely. She was predeceased by husband George W. Alve, grandsons Carl Edward Alve Jr. and James Douglas Alve, brother Miles Seely.

Jean is survived by her sons Carl (Glenda) Alve of Spencer and David Alve of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Hilary (Shane) Schilling of Spencer, Seth (Merrit) Alve of Dallas, Texas; Chesley (Seth) Stoltz of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven great-grandchildren: Danielle, Alex, Zoe, Ki, Shyla, Lucas, Lane; stepgrandchildren Kristy Arnold and Wade VanZile; step greatgrandchildren Kallysta, Amanda, Jade, Hallie; brother Neil Seely, nieces and nephews.

Jean was a member of Faith Bible Chapel, serving 34 years as pianist and in the Awana ministry. She was a member of the Finger Lakes Finns and the Penny Promenaders. Jean was Spencer Historian for 32 years, serving both the town and the village. She wrote a column for the Random Harvest sharing items of Spencer history for many years, and was well known as a square dance caller.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, Aug. 5, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Faith Bible Chapel in Spencer, NY. A private graveside service was held at La Row Cemetery in North Van Etten. Memorials in Jean’s name may be directed to Faith Bible Chapel. Arrangements are with Allen-Manzer Funeral Home, Spencer, NY.
