At 5:09 p.m. on July 14, New York State Police at Newfield arrested Kurtis R. Stone, age 27 of Enfield, on several charges, according to a press release. He was arrested for the misdemeanor of bail jumping in the third degree, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and the violation of unlawful possession of marijuana. Stone was also issued tickets for an uninspected motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, operating without insurance, improper plates, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree.
A trooper spotted Stone leaving a gas station in Newfield and knew he had an active bench warrant. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and found Stone in possession of two controlled substances and marijuana. Stone was arraigned in the Town of Ithaca Court, where he was on $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond for the bench warrant. He had an additional $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond on the charges in the town of Newfield. Stone was later transported to the Tompkins County Jail.
