  1. Ithaca man arrested for attempting to entice and coerce minors into sex: Jeffrey Blake, age 49 of Ithaca was arraigned on a criminal complaint, charging him with attempting to entice and coerce two minors into a sexual act, according to United States Attorney Grant C. Jaquith and James N. Hendricks, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

  2. Lawsuit filed to stop South Hill student rental project: The highly contested student housing development at 815 South Aurora Street is now the subject of a brewing legal battle.

  3. A Growing Trend (Nationwide enrollment decreases showing up in Ithaca): For the first time in recent memory, all three area colleges will have smaller freshman classes this year than in years past.

  4. Ithaca police investigate armed robbery and methamphetamine manufacturing lab: Ithaca police officers were sent to “The Jungle” area, adjacent to Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway, on Aug. 26 for a reported armed robbery and found a mobile methamphetamine manufacturing lab.

  5. Del Lago Resort & Casino has new ownership: Tyre-based casino del Lago Resort & Casino recently announced that the developer who led the casino project in 2015 would sell their 50 percent stake in the business. 

  6. Suspect still at large in Newfield shooting: New York State Police in Ithaca have been on the hunt for a dark-colored SUV after a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment on Shaffer Road in Newfield around midnight on Aug. 28. 

  7. Finger Lakes named best wine region in North America for a second year by USA Today: Another year being named the greatest wine region in North America is cause for celebration, so raise a glass to Finger Lakes Wine.

  8. All for the Jug: The Cortaca Jug game is being thrust into the national spotlight by hosting this year’s game at MetLife Stadium, the home of the NFL’s New York Giants and Jets, in East Rutherford, NJ. 

  9. Ithaca Police Department investigating possible overdose death in West Village: The Ithaca Police Department, accompanied by Bangs EMS, responded to 150 West Village Pl. to investigate an incident involving two unresponsive people on August 21, according to a press release.

  10. Lansing plans creek construction: The Town of Lansing and Tompkins County are currently working together on a project to reconfigure a portion of Salmon Creek that is posing erosion hazards in the area of Salmon Creek and Lockerby Hill Roads.
