Original story: The New York State Police at Ithaca issued a press release regarding their search for a Lansing man, 51 year-old Frederick A. Knapp, whose welfare the police need to check. He was last seen wearing a dark gray sweatshirt with jeans, and is listed at 5'8", 120 lbs.
"Troopers were originally dispatched to Knapp's residence on Locke Road in the town of Lansing at approximately 7:45 p.m., Sunday night after a family member called 911 fearing that Knapp may harm himself and was in possession of a long gun," the release said. "Knapp did not make any threats to anyone else or police."
Early Monday morning, it was found that Knapp was no longer in his house in Lansing, thus spurring the police's search. Police are discouraging people from approaching Knapp if they see him, as he might still be in possession of a "long gun or rifle," and they also say they aren't sure of his mindset.
If Knapp is seen, call 911 or dispatch at (607) 272-2444.
