UPDATE: According to a follow-up email sent by the Tompkins County Alert system, Yi Sun has been located. Police said Sun was located near Route 34/96, north of Decker Road, subsequently taken to Cayuga Medical Center and her family was contacted.
New York State Police, New York State Park Police, DEC Forest Rangers, Ithaca Fire Department, Tompkins County Search and Rescue and other agencies assisted in the lengthy search.
Original Story: The New York State Police have issued a release regarding a missing hiker in the Town of Ithaca. They have been searching for the woman since early Sunday afternoon.
The hiker, who the police identify as a 58 year old woman named Yi Sun, called 911 around 12:30 on Sunday afternoon and told police she had gotten lost. She told dispatchers that she was in a muddy area near a creek and could see power lines. Police said the woman told them she thought she entered the trail at Sandbank Road in the town of Ithaca.
According to the police's release: "The hiker identified herself as Yi Sun, age 58 of Westfield, NJ. She is Asian, approximately 5’6', 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Sun was driving a Beige 2002 Honda Odyssey with New Jersey plate MPX26A."
Several law enforcement groups have been searching the area for the woman for hours Sunday afternoon. Police are asking that anyone who sees Yi Sun or her vehicle contact NYSP at (607) 347-4440.
