Ithaca Police officers responded to a complaint of theft at the Lowes Store located on Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway. Once officers arrived on the scene, they met the victim, who reported a male suspect stole several items including chainsaws. When the employee approached the suspect, he threatened the employee with a hatchet. Following this, the defendant ran into the area known locally as The Jungle with the stolen items.
A short time later, IPD officers located several of the stolen goods outside of a tent occupied by the suspect. Officers made contact with him and a show-up identification was conducted. Soon, officers obtained a search warrant for the tent and recovered $1,300 worth of stolen property. The defendant was identified as Zachery D. Burlingame, who was later arrested for robbery in the first degree and menacing in the second degree.
Burlingame was discovered to have an active bench warrant to previous theft charges in Ithaca City Court. He was arraigned and remanded to Tompkins County Jail on $11,000 cash/$21,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 17.
