Ithaca police officers were sent to “The Jungle” area, adjacent to Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway, on Aug. 26 for a reported armed robbery, according to a media release. Once officers arrived on the scene, the victim was located and advised he’d been robbed at knife and gunpoint. During the course of the investigation, officers were able to identify some potential suspects. A short time later, officers located possible suspects who were armed with machetes and a BB gun that appeared to look like a real handgun.
During this investigation, officers also uncovered what seemed to be a possibly mobile methamphetamine laboratory. Because of the contents and potential hazards associated with methamphetamine manufacturing, IPD officers were assisted at the scene by New York State Police’s Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT) Unit, Bangs Ambulance, and IFD. Evidence items are being reviewed and the investigation is continuing.
