At 5:58 a.m. on Nov. 4, an Ithaca Police officer noticed a vehicle traveling north on Elmira Road towards S. Meadow St. driving erratically and the driver was changing lanes without using a turn signal. The officer conducted a vehicle and traffic stop on the vehicle on the 200 block of N. Meadow St. the driver identified himself as Joseph R. Herrick, 37, of Rock Stream, NY. During the traffic stop, the investigating officer detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
Following an oral admission from the Herrick and a search of the vehicle, the officer found was in possession of a loaded sawed-off double-barrel shotgun with the barrel length being approximately 12 inches in length. Herrick faces the charges of improper/no signaling, unlawful possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E Felony. Herrick is scheduled to appear at the Ithaca City Court at a later date to face the charges.
