Just after 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, an Ithaca police officer was struck by a car while directing traffic in the City of Ithaca, according to a press release from the Ithaca Police Department.
Officers were responding to a two-car accident with injuries at the entrance of Home Depot Plaza, assisted by Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance. The investigation into the crash began, which meant two officers were directing traffic in the intersection that the crash was occupying.
Shortly afterwards, one of the officers in the intersection was struck by a vehicle and "knocked to the pavement." The vehicle then stopped a short way down the road and the driver was issued tickets for "failure to exercise due care" and "uninspected motor vehicle." The officer was transported to a local hospital with "non-life threatening injuries."
