Dr. Luvelle Brown, superintendent of the Ithaca City School District, is going to be honored by the Boy Scouts of America, Baden-Powell Council with the prestigious Tompkins County Distinguished Citizen Award.

According to a press release, the award is given to individuals who set a positive example for others and those who demonstrate concern for their communities. Brown will be recognized by business and community leaders for his significant achievements and service to the community and its youth. The release said that due to his lifelong dedication to mentoring youth, along with serving as the ICSD Superintendent of Schools, Brown has made a great lasting impact on the community.

“Living and working in Tompkins County is a great privilege and honor,” Brown said. “To have my love, commitment, and service to this community recognized with such a prestigious honor brings much joy to my heart.”

Brown will be honored at the annual Tompkins County Distinguished Citizens Award fundraising dinner on April 29 in the Emerson Suites at Ithaca College. All proceeds from the dinner go to help fund Scouting programs throughout Tompkins County and its surrounding communities. Tickets for the event are available through the Baden-Powell Council’s website.
