The Ithaca Police Department is currently investigating vandalism to the Child of Ithaca statue on The Commons. The iconic statue is of a woman sitting at a table with a cup in her hand, and was built in remembrance of Erin Schlather, a local woman who died in a car accident in 2004.
Video surveillance from April 21 at about 9:55 p.m., an unknown subject approaches the statue and removes the cup from the table, running away in an easterly direction.
The suspect in question is a white male, about 20 years old, average build with dark colored hair. The cost of replacing the cup and repairing the stature is about $1,500 dollars. IPD is asking anyone with information that would aid to this investigation to contact them at 607-330-0000 or their anonymous online tip email.
