At 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 2, a car collided with a plow truck on Slaterville Road near Burns Road in the Town of Ithaca. Ithaca Fire Rescue, Bangs Ambulance, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police responded to the incident. Once they arrived on the scene, they found a passenger vehicle off the road in an embankment with a woman trapped inside. The driver suffered minor injuries but was able to climb out of the car. The plow was still on Rte. 79 and the driver had some minor injuries as well.
The Ithaca Fire Department’s Heavy Rescue was brought on the scene along with another engine company. Due to the snowy conditions, crews had to secure the car to the heavy truck so it wouldn’t fall further down the ravine. She and the driver were taken to a local hospital for treatment via Bangs Ambulance. Following that, the road was closed to allow crews to clean up the scene for about an hour. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
