Beginning on July 12, Albany Street will be closed from Green Street to Buffalo Street to allow for milling of the top course of asphalt for a new top course to be put down. The blocks being closed are the 100 Block of South Albany Street, and the 100 and 200 Blocks of North Albany Street. The work will last one week, according to a press release from the City of Ithaca.
TCAT Buses stopping along that stretch of Albany Street will be detoured to accommodate this work. Detours will be set-up, as the contractor will close the blocks while the work is being done, though they will only be open to local traffic when possible. Sidewalk closures will also be in effect for pedestrians, with detours established for walking around the work zones. There will be no parking on these sections of Albany Street while the work is going on.
During the course of the work, contractor G. DeVincentis and Son Construction Company will be removing the top course of asphalt off the entire block of the 100 block of South Albany Street and the intersection of South Albany and State Streets. Following this, they will be removing the top course off of the southbound lane of the 100 Block of North Albany Street and a small section of the northbound lane of the 200 Block of North Albany Street.
The full depth removal of the asphalt will begin on July 15, starting with the triangular areas at the crosswalks located at the intersection of Seneca and North Albany Street continuing into July 16. On the July 17 and 18, the contractor will be preparing for the placement of the asphalt in the aforementioned areas. By July 19, the asphalt placement in these areas is scheduled to be completed.
