Since 1873 Candor has celebrated Independence Day. Many community organizations have organized the event. The American Legion organized it from the parade to the fireworks, carnival and all the events in between for many years. In the past few years, the Legionnaires have passed along and were decided to leave it for the younger generation to handle. A few brave souls stepped up and took over the planning and executing of a great celebration for the community and the committee is now comprised of a mix of community members along with the American Legion Family. On Sunday, June 30th the celebration will start with an Open Car Show (3 – 8 p.m) and vendor sales (8 am – 8 pm). Festivities will start again on Thursday, July 4th with our traditional parade at 10 am (This year’s theme is The Best of Candor, Past, Present and Future). There is still time to enter a float, everyone is welcome. Floats in the past have been community organizations, businesses in the Candor area, marching bands, fire trucks, and residents of streets in Candor entering floats to celebrate their neighborhood. Please contact Nancy King for float information: (607) 283-3244 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Calling all color guards, marching bands, VFW, American Legion, and Auxiliary units: If you would like to participate in the July 4th parade, please call Gwen Benners at 607-372-8977. Also on the 4th is the annual American Auxiliary Chicken BBQ, and the carnival will operate Thursday the 4th- Saturday the 6th.
The fireworks are Friday, July 5th, (raindate Saturday, July 6th), and the Zoomobile will be visiting. The Kiddie Parade, Dan the Snake Man, the carnival rides, a juggler and the Candor Community Chorus concert are the highlights on Saturday, July 6th.
The final day of Candor’s celebration will be Horsepull at Side Hill Acres, admission is $7, children under 12 free. Gates open at 8 am. Thank you in advance to the Candor community for your support, we look forward to seeing you there. We hope that you will enjoy all the activities!
