We caught up with the host of WICB’s “Reggae Explosions,” Michael Miller AKA “DJ Mike Judah” after a recent Thursday shift on the air. “Wow, Best Radio Program! I am honored and grateful to do it. I’d like to thank my listeners for staying true and tuning in each and every week.” When Miller moved to Ithaca from San Diego back in 2003 to raise his kids in Ithaca, he had been immersed in the reggae world since his late teens, and has toured with reggae legends Steel Pulse, Morgan Heritage, Mighty Diamonds, Burning Spear, Lee Scratch Perry and many others. Even though he had “zero DJ’ing experience let alone being a radio host,” within a year of his arrival here, he was asked to take over the show.
“It’s been 14 years now and it seems like it all started just yesterday,” says Miller. “Ithaca has been so good to me and my family. It is a true honor to represent Ithaca and play Roots Reggae Music for the masses in Ithaca and Internationally through iheartradio. I get messages for requests and shout outs from as far as South Africa, Tijuana Mexico, up and down the West coast and of course all over Ithaca.
“I’d like to thank WICB’s previous Station Manager Chris Wheatly for guiding me along the technical radio side of things. And I don’t want to leave out a few of my friends that have sat in when I haven’t been able to be there: David Solid Gould with Fresh Roots Radio, Sistah Ana, Jed Ashton, Jesse Hill, Kevin Kinsella, James Neidhardt, and Josh Bryant. Thanks again Ithaca, much love and gratitude.”
