There is a new bookstore in town – but only for one week.
The Cornell University Press, located at Sage House, the Victorian mansion on State/Seneca Street, is hosting a pop-up bookstore for one week starting Monday, Nov. 5. Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, bookworms and bibliophiles can stop in to peruse the inventory and get a sweet deal on some of the wonderful titles from the Cornell University Press. Paperbacks will be going for $10 while hardcovers for $15; many at a 50 percent discount or more.
The Press, which will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2019, publishes a wide array of books — art, biography and autobiography, history, labor and workplace, law, literature, medicine, New York State and City, philosophy, methodology, political science, religion, science, social science, and more — from authors around the world covering everything from Cornell sports and bird guides to veterans’ affairs, John Cleese, and far beyond.
“As a publisher we tend to get a lot of books in the office from time to time,” said Marketing and Sales Director Martyn Beeny. “Opening a pop-up store for a week allows us to also open our doors to the public and let them buy brand new, smart books at a very reasonable price.”
With the holiday season just around the corner, it’s a good opportunity to hunt for gifts. Not only can you purchase some wonderful books for a steal, but one shopper will be chosen to win $150 of books free of charge. The Cornell University Press staff will also be available to help peruse the many titles on display as well as giving a tour of their historic location in downtown Ithaca.
Shoppers will also receive a discount code for 30 percent off of any of hundreds of titles on the Cornell University Press website.
