North Cayuga Street has been re-opened to traffic after public works crews repaired a water main that had burst.

A water main break had closed North Cayuga Street this morning, and the lack of water service at the start of the school day prompted New Roots Charter School to close for the day.

According to the City of Ithaca's Department of Public Works, a water main burst on North Cayuga Street, near the corner of Seneca Street, just outside of New Roots.

Crews were on the scene, and as a result of the break, the road was closed from Seneca Street to State/MLK Jr. Street.

Because there was no water service to the school building, students were sent home for the day.

The city DPW expected the water main would be repaired by the end of the day; it took just a few hours, however, to make the repair and patch up the road.
